Meals on Wheels Greenville

Electrical Systems for a New Campus That Triples Daily Meal Capacity

Meals on Wheels of Greenville has delivered hot meals to homebound neighbors across Greenville County since 1968. As demand kept climbing, its Oregon Street building could no longer keep up. The new campus at 31 Chalmers Road, built on the site of a former vacant motel near I-85 and Augusta Road, gives the nonprofit a two-story, 25,000-square-foot home nearly three times the size of the old one, with room to grow from 2,000 to 6,000 meals a day.

Southern MEP performed the electrical scope for the project, working alongside Harper General Contractors and architect McMillan Pazdan Smith. The building includes a commercial kitchen of nearly 15,000 square feet, 5,000 square feet of food storage, a circular volunteer drive-thru, a dedicated loading dock, expanded office space for staff, and an outdoor amphitheater.

Crews broke ground in February 2025. The first meals went out from the new building on January 19, 2026, with work wrapping up in February ahead of the March 5 ribbon cutting. The building was also planned to help Meals on Wheels serve as a first-response center during emergencies, a role it stepped into after Tropical Storm Helene. For a nonprofit whose volunteers say they never want to turn anyone away, that means more neighbors get a hot meal and a friendly knock at the door, even on the hardest days.
